“This
cup is the new covenant in my blood;
do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
1 Corinthians 11:25
We are all inclined to be forgetful!
Some people say that lack of vitamin E and B, elderliness
or lack of mind exercise and activity, are the main causes
for that. No matter what people may say about how sometimes
we so easily forget things whose significance is incontestable.
How often do husbands and boyfriends forget to
gift their loved ones on Valentine’s Day? How often
do people forget the important dates, such as: The birthday
of the beloved ones, the wedding anniversary, the family picnic
day, the day to pay the due bill, etc?
Very often indeed! I believe that this
short memory is an indirect result of our sins, since out
of them, we have to live in a world that looks more like a
battlefield than a place offered by God so that we may delightfully
live on it.
In various parts of the bible, we find
God complaining with men about that. In Isaiah 17:10-11, we
read like this, “You have forgotten God your
Savior; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress. Therefore,
though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines,
though on the day you set them out, you make them grow, and
on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud,
yet the harvest will be as nothing in the day of disease and
incurable pain.”
The truth is that the Holy Spirit has as
one of His main functions the task of never allowing us to
forget about the person of Jesus!
I’m not talking about His sacrifice
for us or what He’s done for us so far only, but especially
I want to give much more importance to What He represents
and is for us.
That’s why we should not remember Jesus
only in time of partaking of the Lord’s Supper, but
in every action (even in the simplest ones) we must remember
Him and then be inspired to do exactly what He did in the
diverse situations that are similar to those we are just presently
facing.
As we carefully examine the life of the
apostle Paul, we see that he was extremely victorious, to
the point that as he attempted to describe how victorious
he was, he got into a wordless moment, which cause him to
describe himself in the following way: “in all these
things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Romans 8:37
The question now is: What could turn an
ordinary man like Paul into a real Superman?
He himself gave the answer as he wrote
down the following note: “Imitate me, just as
I also imitate Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1
(NKJ)
How could a man who was absent in both
major and minor actions of Jesus be able to imitate Him?
The answer to this question is the key of life!
He simply showed us how we can imitate Jesus or remember Him
and do the things that He did, in order to be more than conquerors
just as he was. We are in advantage as we have all the facts
about Jesus, detailed and organized, in the bible. The biggest
problem now is that our unwillingness in imitating Jesus or
doing exactly what He did.
For example, Jesus forgave all who hurt
and offended Him. So, let’s do the very same! Jesus
felt more excited to give than to receive. So, let’s
do the same! Jesus loved all and prayed for all who persecuted
and also for those who promoted injustice in His life. Let’s
all do the same as He!
Is it easy? Not at all!
Is it possible? Yes at all!
Then, what are waiting for? For a white
magic to change our lives? We, once we decide to imitate Jesus,
can change our lives at any time. Everybody would like to
be a Superhero in real life? Wouldn’t you?
God Bless
You All!
